A Clinical Study on Pneumoconiosis

Abstract
84 complicated pneumoconisis patients who had been admitted to Occupational Clinic, St. Mary¢¥s hospital for past 5 years were studied on effects of treatment.
The results were as follows;
1) As for the complication, tuberculosis accounted for 89.3£¥, emphysema 4.7£¥ and brochiectasis 3.0£¥.
2) 59 cases among total 84 cases were tunnel drivers and timbermem.
3) Among 54 cases who had been discharged after treatment, 34 cases were complicated with minimal tucerculosis.
Average duration of stay in minimal, moderate and far-advanced tuberculosis-complicated cases were 231, 298, and 498 days respectively.
Discharged case was defined with "healed£ª or ¢©arrested£ª case on X-findings and negative conversion of AFB positive.
Average duration of converting AFB positive to negative was 3 months in minimal, 6 months moderate, and over 1 year in far-advanced tuberculosis.
4) 7 cases of 54 discharged cases were readmitted ( readmission rate, 13.0£¥), and the readmission rates in each stage of tuberculosis were 3£¥ in minimal, 23£¥ moderate and 67£¥ far-advadced cases.
This indicates that it needs long-term observation and after care particularly in advanced cases.
